Description
John along with Peter and his brother James were always in the forefront of the Apostles and he alone followed Jesus Christ to the Cross and later received under his protection the Virgin Mary.
After the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans (year 70) he settled in Ephesus and from there he was later exiled to Patmos, where, according to tradition, he wrote the book of Revelation.
From Patmos, he returned to Ephesus, where he remained and died peacefully in a very old age around the year 100. In the last years of his life he repeated to everyone the same phrase: “My children, you love one another.” They asked him why he only kept saying that, and he replied that it was the Lord’s command and that was enough.
