Description
It is dedicated to the Genesis of the Virgin Mary, from the homonymous icon that exists in the Monastery. In fact, it is built on the natural borders of the prefectures of Laconia and Messinia, so it administratively belongs to both prefectures.
The Monastery has been erected on the site of the ruins of the ancient temple of Athena that heals and the visitor can distinguish structural elements from the ancient temple integrated inside.
The conversion of the temple from pagan to Christian took place in 382 AD. The monastery became male in 1977, after first in 1972, it was declared a holy shrine.
