Saint Theodores

Saint Theodore of Tire (February 17, 306 or 307) is one of the two saints named Theodore, who are revered as warrior saints and great martyrs in the Orthodox Church.

The other saint with the same name is Saint Theodore the Stratilatis, also known as Theodore of Heraklion. Saint Theodore the Stratilatis is a Saint of the Eastern Orthodox Church.

Description

Saint Theodore of Amasea acted during the years of the emperors Maximian (286 – 305) and Galerius (305 – 311).

He was named Tiron because he had enlisted in the body of the Tyrones, the recruits of the Roman legion. He is also considered a martyr by the Orthodox Church due to the martyrdom he received.

The other saint with the same name is Saint Theodore the Stratelates (meaning the Commander of the Army), also known as Theodore of Heraklion. Saint Theodore the Stratelates is a Saint of the Eastern Orthodox Church.

He lived at the end of the 3rd, beginning of the 4th century. The exact year of his birth is not known. He was a high-ranking officer in the Roman army and a martyr of the Orthodox faith.
