Description

At the instigation of the Archbishop of Athens, he has ordained Bishop of Aegina, taking the name Dionysios. After years of pastoral activity on the island of Argosaronikos, he returned to his homeland, where he lived ascetically in the Monastery of Anafonitria.

Saint Dionysios died in 1622, at the age of 75. His remains were buried in the chapel of Agios Georgios of the monastery of Strofades. During the recovery, they saw that his relic was incorruptible. It was originally erected on the episcopal throne of the temple, but later it was transported to the city and kept in various temples. Nowadays it is placed in a luxurious shrine in the temple that bears his name.

Of the many virtues of Saint Dionysios, it is worth noting his humility and great forbearance.

When his brother’s killer sought refuge in the monastery, he hid him and protected him.
